Trip to Tamil Nadu
Day 01: Arrive Chennai
Upon arrival you will be met and greeted by our representative then transfer to your hotel. Overnight will be at the hotel.
Day 02: Chennai - Mahabalipuram
In the morning after breakfast half-day sight seeing in Chennai. The history of Chennai began 25 years before the British reached Bombay and 50 years before they arrived in Calcutta. During the city tour one visits the lovely 16th century church of Our Lady of Expectations, the Kapaleeswarar Temple, the government museum which houses a vast collection of the best south Indian bronzes as well as archaeological remains from excavations at the amravati Buddhist stupa; the national museum and the fort St. George. Inside the fort you can stroll through the pages of history. Lord Clive house is still there, and Lord Wellesley who later became the duke of Wellington also lived here. Inside the fort also visit the oldest Anglican Church in India, St. Mary's church constructed in 1680. Afternoon drives toward Mahabalipuram. Overnight will be at the hotel.
Day 03: Mahabalipuram – Kancheepuram – Mahabalipuram
After breakfast excursion to Kanchipuram which is famous for its good quality silk and silken saris that it produces. This is one of the seven sacred cities of India. Its temples are spectacular and the gopums can be seen from miles away. Return to Mahabalipuram in the afternoon. Mahabalipuram. The second capital and seas port of the pallava kings of mahabalipuram, the first Tamil dynasty of any real consequences to emerge after the fall of the Gupta Empire. It is famous for its shore temples and rock carvings most of which were built and carved between 630 ad and 728 ad. Visit the rock sculptures, the shore temples and the bas-relief called the penance of Arjuna. Overnight will be at the hotel.
Day 04: Mahabalipuram -Madurai
Early in the morning after breakfast proceed towards Madurai. Upon arrival check into your hotel and relax. Overnight will be at the hotel.
Day 05: Madurai – Rameshwaram - Madurai
In the morning take an excursion to Rameshwaram, an island situated on the tip of the Indian peninsula.It is the place from where Lord Rama had built a bridge across the sea to rescue his consort Sita. This is the place where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to cleanse away the sin of Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage city. The places of visit include the Ramanathaswamy Temple, which was built in the 17th century and is situated close to the sea on the eastern side of the island; this temple is famous for its 1200 gigantic granite columns. At a distance of about 100 metres comes the Agnitheertham, where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva, to absolve himself from the killing Ravana. Another shrine called Gandamadana Parvatham is worth visiting. This shrine is found at 2kms away from Rameshwaram. A place called Dhanushkodi named after Rama's bow is at the eastern end of the island at a distance of 8 kms from Rameshwaram. Early evening return back to your hotel. Overnight will be at the hotel in Madurai.
Day 06: Madurai – Chennai by Overnight Train
In the morning after breakfast visit the famous Meenakshi temple- a splendid example of Dravidian architecture, Tirumalai Nayak Mahal and Gandhi Museum. Then in time transfer to the railway station to board your overnight train to Chennai.
Day 07: Arrive Chennai – Onwards Destination
Upon your arrival you will be met and greeted then transfer to a local hotel for short wash and change. Then in time transfer to the airport to board your flight back home.
